HM Ambassador Car Review

December 29, 2008 - Category: India Car News | 6 Comments

Trace the roots of the Ambassador to 1948 in India. While the car owes much of its design approach to the Morris Oxford from the United Kingdom, there has been a sea of changes since then as it strives to live up to its mighty reputation every next year. Every Indian road has been a proud witness to the roaring Ambassador, and sixty odd years later, the Ambassador continues to survive. The ‘Amby’ is always fondly remembered as India’s first distinct car. Hindustan Motors has kept the spirit alive in the Grand Ambassador.

While bureaucrats have always flaunted the Ambassador as their stamp of status, the Ambassador Grand has quite a contemporary redesign which might prompt individual buyers to check out the Amby. At launch, the Ambassador Grand was declared to have gone through 137 design enhancements. The car currently comes in petrol and diesel types, with turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine (80 bhp) and a petrol engine (75 bhp). 1.8L MPFI, 2.0L DSZ, 1.5L DSL, and 1.8L CNG are currently available. The 1.8L CNG is a smart eco-friendly car that saves considerably more fuel both in petrol and diesel engines, among other cars in its segment.

With the Ambassador Grand, you still get the sturdy vehicle with spacious interiors and tough exteriors. Hindustan Motors give you an old-world comfort that is hard to beat. Even today, the Ambassador gives a top mileage of 16 km per liter. Offered in BS II and BS III versions, the Ambassador Grand comes with 5-speed gear, power windows, power steering and factory-fitted AC among other features. From the assurance of negligible emissions to added storage capacity for family travel, the Grand Ambassador is a true-blue Ambassador.

The only backdrop of the car is that it may not find many takers in the young. Its design symbolizes old world elegance but there is a lack of modern zing in the car. In spite of that Indian roads would be incomplete without this loyal and oldest car of the country.

Our verdict: Though it may seem slightly weird to go for an old-fashioned looking bulky car, you might actually find a loyal family vehicle in the HM Ambassador.

world is adopting according to innivations. The less priced vechiles like(wagon-r, Zen, shift, ICON) comes with automatic climate controlled, fog lamp, from wiper with water flow from the engine, central/remote locking, ABS..etc.
But still it is at the back of the journey. the manangement is not working proper for it’s improvement. Think there is no R&D for this. Think time has come to dock this model. That’s the reason you have dropped to 33%.

Amby has ruled india for decades because there was no other brands for competetion.
had there been other brands then, amby would have been lost in the history.
