Great ride quality packed with top quality features and competitive prices. The finish of the bike though needs some improvement.

Indian automakers sell more number of motorcycles compared to scooters. But scooters are not moving away from Indian roads anytime soon for sure! Let’s take a look at one of India’s most popular scooters, the TVS Jupiter.

    Quick ride
Unfortunately, most of the roads in India are bad, or geometrically wrong. But Jupiter’s telescopic suspension combined with 12-inch tyres makes sure that you experience comfortable ride, even on bad roads. Large and well-cushioned seat combined with rightly placed handlebars make this scooter the best choice for long rides as-well.

    Engine
Like most of the other scooters available in the Indian market, the Jupiter is also powered with 109.7cc engine that produces 8bhp and 8Nm. This is air-cooled, four-stroke engine.

    Speed
Experts who tested this vehicle suggest that the Jupiter offered best ride when ridden between 40 and 70 kilometers per hour. This TVS scooter is equipped with 130mm rear and front drum brakes, so slowing it, or stopping it is also comfortable.

    Mileage
You can drive it in either power mode, or eco mode. Jupiter is as fuel efficient as its cousin, Wego. TVS claims that Jupiter can offer mileage of 60 KMPL.

Let’s not forget the impact of road conditions, and traffic on vehicle’s mileage, but most of the user reviews suggest the vehicle gives mileage of around 45 to 50 KMPL. Its reserve fuel light indicator will keep on reminding you about the need to visit petrol pump. It is also the first scooter in India with pass-by switch/ turn signal switch.

Is it as good as Honda Activa?

Jupiter’s direct competition is with Honda Activa that is considered as India’s best selling scooter. But even Honda takes TVS seriously as TVS has Wego, Streak, Scooty Pep in its portfolio. TVS has already sold 100,000 Jupiter scooters since its launch.

Its stylish look and features make this scooter perfect choice for sales persons, college students, housewives and senior citizens. Its bright LED taillight is good enough to warn other vehicles about your intention to turn. Horn is loud enough to grab everyone’s attention.

Like other TVS scooters, even the Jupiter offers hassle-free refueling with its external fuel filler. So there is no need to raise that seat while refueling. This is something that Activa fails to offer.

After more than an year from its launch, Jupiter is considered as one of the most sold scooters in Indian market. Tubeless tires, 12- inch alloy wheels, rear gas charged monoshock, front telescopic forks assure ride as good as the one offered by Honda Activa.

Jupiter’s under-seat storage with mobile phone charger can definitely prove useful to keep those shopping bags or helmet. You can also use its retractable bag hooks to hand your bags, college sacks, etc.

    Colors
You can choose from color options like Titanium Grey, Midnight Black, Mercury White, Volcano Red, Sparkling Silver and Matte Beige.

    Price
Jupiter is available for around Rs. 44,250, plus local and state taxes wherever applicable. Price-wise, Jupiter costs less compared to Honda Activa that is available between Rs 50,000 and 58,000 depending on taxes.

TVS launched two new colors to attract more eye balls

The scooter was launched in September 2013. However, TVS launched Sparkling Silver and Matte Beige colored models in September 2014 to attract more riders during festive season. The scooter maker kept all the other specifications same in newly launched models.

The company’s CEO K.N. Radhakrishnan interacted with journalists during the same month and said the company launched two additional colors due to popular public demand.

TVS offers country’s most comprehensive range of scooters. According to TVS Motors CEO, the company’s Scooty Streak, Pep+, and Zest are meant for women single user segment. Wego targets duel user segment, while the Jupiter targets male single users’ scooter segment.
