After returning to the US market in 2023 following a brief hiatus since 2020, the Breakout has continued to evolve with the big 117ci Milwaukee-Eight Custom engine, now standard across the lineup. Nevertheless, Breakout remained in production and was available for international markets while missing from the US range for a few years.
Every Ride Is A Tiny Holiday
However, following the Low Rider S and Low Rider ST, the Breakout has joined the Softail range with the 117 engine, and remains a flagship of the cruiser lineup for 2026.
But then, the changes for the recent Breakout go far beyond the engine alone. Harley-Davidson has been listening to its customers and has now decided to introduce updates that mark this generation of Breakout.
The earlier versions of Breakout, aping the custom bike trends, had eliminated much of the chrome in 2018 towards a more blackened look at that time alongside the Softail frame and the smaller 3.5-gallon tank in place of its old 5.0-gallon design.
Never Too Old To Tom & Cruise
The current Breakout machine has now reversed some of those changes. It keeps the improvised chassis but reverts to the 5.0-gallon fuel tank. And it genuinely raises the chrome quotient quite well.
While The older generations of the Breakout were offered in 107 and 114ci engine versions. And the new one comes only with the most prominent 117ci Custom derivative of the Milwaukee-Eight engine. It promises 126 lb.-ft. Of torque in motion.
Other tweaks in the recent Breakout include a new riser that makes the handlebars three-quarters of an inch taller. The Breakout also gains the standard cruise-control system on other cruise bikes. It also has standard traction control and selectable ride modes that can be easily managed via a bar-mounted button.
What A Come-Back
With long, low, and comprehensive 240mm tires, Breakout, introduced in 2012, was initially conceived as a new-day chopper. It had a darker finish, but the new version has overcome and switched back a bit by adding a ton of chrome.
The wheels for the 2026 Breakout have been redesigned alongside the chrome outlook, and it now has an iconic turbine 26-spoke wheel that was there on the models before the 2018 version. The black-and-chrome alternative spokes design spins even when you are sitting still. And they get dynamic when you are moving.
Picking A Fight At The Red Light
Breakout is ready for a brawl if you run across someone picking a fight at a red light. The Touring Intake steps up the intimidation factor along with the new performance-tuned 2-into-2 exhaust. Temperature management for the 117 engine is ably handled by air and an oil cooler.
The 240 Michelin Scorcher 11 mounted on an 18-inch wheel puts the power to the ground. And there is a 130mm 21-inch leading the way up front. The cast aluminum wheels are painted black and show off the details of the machine. Just plan the deceleration carefully, as there is just one 300mm disc in the front.
Euphoria On Two Wheels
Nevertheless, Breakout is a big motorcycle but accessible to more riders. The diagonally mounted handlebar riser is polished in stainless steel. It is three-quarters of an inch long and grips closer to the rider.
The Harley-Davidson’s 4-inch analog speedometer with digital readouts is mounted between the handlebar clamps. It lets you know all the required information without cluttering the front end. With more friendly ergonomics, you can take the Breakout for a longer ride out of town.
